Nose: Roasted nuts, vanilla, semi-sweet chocolate, maple, nutmeg, cinnamon, and pepper, sultanas, cherries, melon, banana, and coconut. A very vibrant nose.
Palate: Pepper, fruit, wine notes, wine tannins, cherries, coconut, sultanas, oak, cinnamon, roasted honey. As it often does, Kavalan’s ability to integrate fruits and spices shines here.
Finish: Long, with lingering intensity. Dry, winey, grapes, plums, with dark honey, toasted oak, maple, and malt.
Thoughts: I like all the Solist releases, and this is no exception. Brilliant flavours and intensity. There’s an interesting and vibrant interplay between sweet and dry, and the wine notes are complex and nuanced. Kavalan’s signature tropical fruits and some lovely spices also weave their way in. Great stuff.
