Nose: Dried fruits, salt, caramel, sherry, toffee, touch of peat, bran, malt, and indistinct fruits.
Palate: Very rich, thick, and mouth-coating. Salt, bran, malt, seaweed, oak, sherry, figs, apples, wet tobacco, spices, and brown sugar.
Finish: Brine, indistinctive fruit, wine, bran, toffee, nuts, mild peat, and malt.
Thoughts: I used to be on the fence about this one. But several bottles later, it’s great. It’s got a thick, syrupy consistency without all the sweetness. There’s a good, albeit indistinct, sherry presence, some maritime notes, and some malt. Good interaction of flavours here. It tastes more like 15 years old than 12, as there’s no suggestion of youth. Excellent whisky, and excellent value for money. This one’s a staple in the cabinet.
