Nose: A heavy dose of Ardbeg-style peat. Maple, honey, citrus, oak, bacon, petrol, earth, metal, minerals, pine, and a potent brine. The flavours are crisp, clean, and industrial.
Palate: Quite rich and mouth-coating arrival. A powerful rush of classic Ardbeg flavours follows. Peat, petrol and smoke come on strong. The intensity of the peat is initially overpowering, but subsequent sips reveal some beautifully integrated citrus and honey. Lemons, oysters, seaweed, limestone, and smoked bacon.
Finish: Long and big. I’m enjoying the barley here. Aside from the huge peat, there’s a subtle farmy quality here with hay, barley, and wheat. There’s also a rich meatiness. Sorry; porkiness. Glazed ham and smoked bacon. Ironically, the flavours that started off heavy and industrial soon become quite refreshing and natural, like mineral-rich spring water.
Thoughts: Did I just use the word “porkiness?” Anyway, this is a big whisky for all the cask-strength peat-heads out there. The Corry offers up loads of flavour and intensity with classic Ardbeg flavours. It translates beautifully from nose to palate to finish. The dynamic finish is particularly interesting. But it’s thicker and richer than other Ardbegs. If you want something light or clean, this isn’t for you. It’s heavy and bulky. Unlike the Oogie or the Ten, I need to be in the right mood to enjoy this one.
If you know Ardbeg, you know that there’s a lot of batch discrepancy. Meaning… this ONE score doesn’t represent the Corryvrecken as a whole. I recently bought a bottle that I’d score higher, maybe around 92. Others I’ve had would be no higher than 87. If you are interested in Ardbeg, be aware of these HUGE variations between batches.

*典型ARDBEG風味但更濃郁和強烈,但是這很取決於我當下的心情,如果當下並不想要喝太濃郁強烈的話,這款ARDBEG CORRYVRECKEN還不及ARDBEG 10.
