Nose: Very sherry. Dates, raisins, plums, orange rind, cherries and other dark fruits, cherry cola, wine tannins, marzipan, licorice, dark chocolate, Christmas cake, and cinnamon. A touch of malt in there too. Rich, powerful, and complex.
Palate: The arrival is immediately dry with some salt, followed by a sherry explosion. Loads of fruits, pepper, berries, orange, raisins, dates, and apple. The fruity character is somewhat sweeter on the palate than on the nose. Drying.
Finish: This is where the oak comes in. Meaty. Roasted nuts, charcoal, salt, red fruits, brandy, and spices. A dry and fruit-heavy finish. Long.
Thoughts: You get what you want from a sherry bomb here. Cask strength, very sherried, and affordable. It’s still big, ballsy, fun, and loaded with flavour. With time in the glass, this whisky’s remarkable balance shines through. It’s not a mystery as to why this stuff is so popular. Essential for sherry lovers.
