Nose: Well, syrup. Very sweet. Hints of pine and cedar. A bit of bite to this, too. There’s a very light, sweet, and gentle vanilla note that’s quite pleasant here. It reminds me of cake icing. A sweet and rich nose.
Palate: Thick and sweet. Vanilla icing, mild rye notes, caramel, crème brûlée, and spice.
Finish: A spicy kick carries us into the familiar vanilla icing note. Icing sugar, pudding, oak, hints of rye and cinnamon. With the cinnamon and vanilla icing note, I’m reminded of a cinnamon bun. As you may have noted, sweetness dominates the finish.
Thoughts: In fact, sweetness dominates this entire dram. There’s a good intensity and woodiness here, and it hits hard for a 47% whiskey. But the character is too thick and sweet for me. Luckily the bourbon redeems itself with the intrinsic quality and intensity of its flavours. It’s pretty good for drinking, but you could also drizzle this on your pancakes.
