Nose: Lots of maple, oak and cedar shavings, vanilla, smoke, spearmint, brown sugar, red apples, lots of cinnamon. Crisp, with good intensity.
Palate: Cinnamon, woodspices, spearmint, menthol, and more maple. Largely a continuation of the nose, with less wood.
Finish: Nutmeg, cinnamon, anise, maple sugar, oak. Medium-long finish with a good burn.
Thoughts: I like the sweetness here, which is thick and never too cloying. There’s also a nice balance of flavours. The wood influence is felt more than it’s tasted, meaning I notice the drying, spicy effect of the wood more than I taste its actual flavours. This won’t blow you away, but it’s a nice, sophisticated bourbon.
